Junior Hockey

Junior players are those who are at primary school, irrespective of their age.

Hockey is a very technical sport which is, of course, part of its appeal.  When working with junior players it is therefore extremely important to ensure that they are taught correct techniques and skills, on an artificial surface, from day one.  This will lay a solid foundation from which they may develop to their full potential as senior players.  Nova Hockey Club's junior programme is all about getting players to love and enjoy the sport and we achieve this by focusing our efforts on developing their individual skills and abilities.  The programme is open to boys and girls of all skill levels – from absolute beginners to accomplished players.

While the emphasis is on skills development, we may occasionally arrange matches where the young players may put their skills into practice.  These are always friendly matches and are geared towards enjoyment and development and not about winning.  This means that players may play for Nova while simultaneously representing their schools in the Northerns Primary Schools league.

Nova's 2021 under 11 and under 13 girls teams

Training for 2024 has already commenced and takes place on Fridays from 16:30 to 18:00 at HoĆ«rskool Wonderboom on their training astro.  We normally continue training until the last Friday of November.

All boys or girls, whether they currently play hockey elsewhere or not, or even if they've never played hockey before, are welcome to join in our training sessions to see whether they like the club before joining – at no cost and with no obligation to join.  NB: it is not necessary to register or join before coming to a first session, we only ask that you please let us know you're coming so that we can plan adequately.

If you want to get involved, please Contact Us to discuss it before you Join.  Be sure to visit our Fees page too.
